What is it?

Maeheon Citizen’s Forest is a park designed like a forest surrounded by the big city. The park was first planned before the 1986 Asian Games and the 1988 Olympic Games. It also has a kids playground, an outdoor basketball court, and a big statue of Yun, Bong Gil.

Yun, Bong-Gil is known as a patriotic martyr in Korea for his heroic deed in Shanghai April 29, 1992. When Korea was under the Japanese colonization, Yun, Bong-Gil rejected Japanese education and studied in Ochiseosuk or a village school. He also founded a night school and started an enlightenment movement. When Shanghai was also invaded by the Japanese government, there was a birthday celebration for the emperor. At the ceremony, Yun Bong-Gil threw the bomb on the podium killing many military officers. He was sentenced to death and died at the age of 24.
